Park Manor Elementary School, located in the Greater Grand Crossing Community, is truly a school that embodies the spirit of hard work. Johnson, it only took three short years to accomplish this monumental task. The most inspirational factor of all, though, is that this turn-around came from within its current staff and student body, exemplifying how determination and focus can overcome any adversity. For the past several weeks, the 8th grade students have been reading Urrea’s first book “Across The Wire: Life & Times on the Mexican Border.” With the help of his teacher, Mrs. Mendoza, corps member Michael Casciari thought it would be a great idea if he could get the author to visit the school.
